Why install smoke detectors?
Smoke alarms have been mandatory in all residential buildings since 2006 and for good reason. According to Fire and Rescue NSW, 56% of fatal house fires occurred in houses without a working smoke alarm.
The highest risk of mortality in a house fire occurs when your family is sleeping. Most people don’t realise that they don’t have a sense of smell when they are sleeping.
A smoke alarm is designed to wake you up and give you time to escape. Remember, only working smoke alarms save lives.
Why doesn’t everyone have a smoke detector?
Let’s be honest, smoke alarms are annoying. They go off way too easily, can be hard to ‘hush’, chirp annoyingly and need yearly battery replacements.
But Smoke Alarm technology has moved on from the days of basic screeching smoke alarms. Omega Services can supply and install smoke alarms that have fewer false alarms, don’t need annual battery changes, can be interlinked and hushed by remote control or your phone.
No more angry broom handle stabbing or tea towel-waving when your husband burns his toast.
Google Nest Protect Smoke Alarms
Google now offers Nest Protect, a smoke and carbon monoxide detector that can send your phone alerts via the Google Nest App. They are designed to be interlinked and used with Google Assistant and other Google Nest products.
The Nest has multiple sensors that use carbon monoxide and two wavelengths of light to detect smoke from both fast-burning and smouldering fires.
So you’re not running towards danger, the Nest will wake all occupants and tell them where the fire is. If it is a false alarm you can silence the Nest via the device or using your phone.
It is ultra low maintenance, it quietly tests its batteries, sensors, speakers and sirens every month which is inline with Fire and Rescue NSW recommendations.
The Nest meets Australian Standard for smoke alarms AS 3786 and AS/NZS 4268.
How much do smoke detectors cost?
Every job is different, but we’ll always give you our best possible price. We believe in total honesty, transparent and upfront pricing. Before we start any work, you’ll have the chance to approve a fixed quote. This price won’t change, it’s the exact amount you’ll pay when we finish.
We also offer Openpay, a system which lets you split the cost of our smoke detector installation work into interest-free affordable weekly or monthly instalments.

We called Omega Services to come out and check out our broken kitchen tap having used their services in the past for other plumbing work. Edit: Mitchell arrived and was very friendly and helpful.Very friendly but weird booking process. Booked online, described problems, opted for afternoon visit. Got a call back quickly which was nice, asked to describe problem. Already did that online. Told to expect plumber at... 9am (which is fine, not the afternoon though), I'm regularly up late so thought I'd sleep until then. Missed "courtesy" calls as phone on silent, they were trying to confirm I'm around. Thus job was delayed til later today. I was already told 9am so yes I am around. Andrew and Adam from Omega Plumbing and Home Services did an excellent job in renewing my Sewerage and complete drainage system of my old home in Winston Hills. Matt and Jarred initially did the investigation and provided very courteous and professional service. Mat was very... friendly and explained all that was happening with the pipeline expected to be done in the 1970s. Andrew was very sincere, diligent in his work and most importantly was spot on, in terms of communicating the plans for the day, and what was getting done when. A mixed review. Very happy with initial response and quote. Was told two workers would be back to drain and remove old water heater. Ben arrived on his own. He was polite and efficient but it was not fair on him or us as my husband had to help him remove the heater which was... extremely heavy and awkward. The heater would not have been removed if my husband hadn't helped. We did pay for this so shouldn't have had to help. On a brighter note, both William and Jarden arrived to install the new heater. First Adam arrived promptly and strongly encouraged me to watch him jet the sewer line so I could understand any problems as to why sewerage overflowed outside and my house flooded with bath water. Understandably I was extremely anxious and upset with houseful of guests and... toilets not working properly and the prospect of major work to pipes. From the moment I called Omega Home Services, Ryan was the first to come out, our water heater was leaking. Of course it has to be replaced. Being the long weekend, Ryan left his number in case water heater broke down further, and Ryan said Omega would put in a temporary water... heater, well the heater broke down that same afternoon a temporary heater was installed.The service was prompt and efficient. Nelson from Omega Services came and installed a brand new hot water system for us last week. The water heater delivered the first time was found to be faulty. Nelson and his colleague immediately got in touch with the company and quickly arranged for its replacement. The new one... was delivered right next day. In the meantime, to make sure that we did not have to suffer a 24-hour waiting period without hot water running in the house during winter time, Nelson and his colleague installed us a temporary hot-water system. Then, Nelson returned the next day and installed the new system for us straight away, and also gave us some good tips on how to use and maintain the new system.
